What is a Plot Twist?

A plot twist is when something surprising happens in a story that makes it go in a different direction than you thought. Authors use this to make stories more interesting and to surprise readers. When it's done well, it can make a story really amazing and leave you wanting to know more. Many different kinds of books have used plot twists to keep readers hooked.

Types of Plot Twists

Plot twists are like secret ingredients in books that make them more exciting and surprising. They can change a regular story into a really interesting one. There are different kinds of shocking twists that authors use in books:

Identity Surprise: This is when you find out who a character really is, and it can completely change the story. For instance, it happens in books like "Shutter Island" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley."

Tricky Narrator: Sometimes, the person telling the story isn't honest or is hiding things. When you figure this out, it can be a big surprise. You can see this in books like "Gone Girl" and "We Were Liars."

Time Jumps: In some stories, the order of events isn't straightforward. They might go back or forward in time, and this can reveal important things that you didn't know before. This happens in books like "Life of Pi" and "The Girl on the Train."

Supernatural Element: Sometimes, a normal story suddenly has something magical or supernatural in it, and that can be really unexpected. You can see this in books like "The Turn of the Screw" and "Sharp Objects."

These are just a few examples of how authors use plot twists to make their books more interesting. Whether it's a mystery, a thriller, or a literary book, these shocking plot twists make reading more fun and exciting.

This book was seriously disturbing, like a rollercoaster ride of creepiness that lasted from start to finish. It wasn't outright scary, but there were moments that really got under my skin. The writing was incredible, and the story? Well, it left my mind in a twist.

Honestly, I can't quite decide if I loved it, hated it, or had mixed feelings about the characters. It's the kind of story that doesn't always leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, but it's undeniably good. It kept me thinking long after I closed the book. And that ending? It seriously messed with my head; I'm still trying to make sense of it.

What you should know

The main character, Lowen, is a struggling writer who gets a big chance to work on a famous series in Vermont. The story goes into dark and creepy stuff like child abuse, accidents, and murder. It keeps you guessing, and the ending is surprising. Hoover's decision to go indie is cool and suggests more suspenseful stories in the future.

Why do I love it?

Honestly, I wasn't sure I'd like a book with a hint of the supernatural. It's not my usual read, and I had to give myself a little pep talk to start it. But, I was in for a surprise! The story follows a family dealing with their daughter's unsolved murder, and it's full of unexpected twists.

The characters, the shifting perspectives, and the plot development were all well-done. The writing was clear, not overexplaining things, and it flowed seamlessly between characters. I didn't get bored or want to skim, which is rare for me.

What you should know

It's divided into two parts: the first focuses on Gale and his family, while the second explores the dark path of the killer. It's a mix of thriller and police investigation, with the killer's identity revealed surprisingly early. The tension rises as we wonder if they'll catch the killer in time.

Don't be put off by the book's length; it's a smooth read with no boring parts. There are a few typos, but they didn't ruin my enjoyment. However, be aware that the book deals with heavy topics, so it might not be suitable for everyone. If you like psychological thrillers with a hint of the supernatural, give it a try, but be cautious if you're sensitive to themes like child abduction, abuse, and murder.

I really enjoyed this book! It's got a fascinating mystery with Angie and Sal that kept me hooked. Pip and Ravi are interesting characters, and Pip's determination to solve the mystery for her school project is impressive.

The author's writing is great, and I liked how they showed racism through characters like Stanley. It reminds us that people like him still exist today, and that part of the book felt very real

Though I had reservations about the book being a Young Adult novel, Pip's unique perspective and creative problem-solving drew me in. The author's storytelling techniques, like interviews and diary entries, made the story richer.

When I think back, I loved the interactions between Millie, Nina, and her family. It was such an awesome read until the last few chapters. I was disappointed with the ending and couldn't help but feel unsatisfied. Besides that, this book is well worth reading!
